(More customer reviews)The Vasque Wasatch lives up to its reputation for unusual out of the box comfort.I took a brand new pair on a hard hike and rock scramble last weekend with no blisters or other problems.

The boots also managed to stay completely dry even though recent rains had transformed the trails into small brooks.

Be aware that the Wasatch is a little on the heavy side for a day hiker.On the plus side, that heaviness translates into superior ankle support.The quality of the leather uppers appears to be a big step up over boots costing a little less.Also appreciated is the fact that the soles are softer and stick better on bare rock than is usual for a heavier boot.

The claim that the boot runs true to size is probably correct, but also a little bit odd because no one will buy these to wear with thin dress socks on sidewalks.Thick hiking socks will add roughly one-half size, and a hiking boot should also be sized with extra space at the toe.The bottom line is that my size (United States) in a dress shoe is 10.5 wide, while my best fit in the Vasque Wasatch was 11.5 medium.

(More customer reviews)Sadly, this is a terrible product! Worse still, until i actually wore them (obviously) i couldn't tell just how awful they are. Catch 22: once you've worn them you can't return them. So obviously, i'm now stuck w/ a badly designed shoe that distorts the way my foot hits the ground---which caused pulled muscles in my foot & ankle that took a week to heal.

Naturally, until the shoe was worn around for a bit, this was impossible to assess. But because i've bought them here thru an Amazon seller, i cannot return them, because they're not "in the box w/out having been worn". Bummer, & last time i will purchase from either this seller, or Amazon, any item other than basics (books, cds, etc) which i will not have any reason to return. What a waste of money!

(I wouldn't even give these shoes & their return policy 1 star, but the 1 star designation comes w/ the review & can't be reduced to the "0" this situation deserves.)

Birkenstock London Clog Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a big Birkenstock fan and have been since about 1987 when I bought my first pair of Milano sandals. I'm on my second pair of Londons. These are great shoes! The craftmanship is superb! The contoured footbed make walking and standing very comfortable even for long hours at a time.
If you're new to Birkenstock, I HIGHLY recommend you visit a birck & mortar Authorized Birkestock dealer for proper sizing. They are sold in European sizing. A man's size 9 - 9.5 is about a 42 European, 10 - 10.5 is 43, 11 - 11.5 is 44. But the important issue is the footbed, this is why I say to visit a store. Regardless of you're shoe size, if your foot doesn't fit the footbed correctly, you won't get a comfortable fit. STAY AWAY from the cheap Wal-mart knock offs! They're not as good and the sizing isn't correct. If I sound like a salesman for Birkenstock, I'm not. I've just worn them for many, many years and have had many different styles. I speak from experience. Also if you're new to Birkenstocks, don't expect to start wearing them for long periods right off the bat. You're foot is not going to be used to the footbed and therefore you will experience some discomfort initially. As your foot becomes used to the REAL support of a Birkenstock footbed, you will be repaid in amazing comfort and stamina. Start slowly, wearing them for only a couple hours per day and gradually work up to a full day. It won't take long.
The foot bed consist of 3 major and important features. It is important that your foot fits these feature correctly.
1: Molded heel cup. Your heel should rest all the way in to the heel cup when standing.
2: Modled arch support: Your arch should rest fully on this. If this feature is to far forward or back, your arch will not be properly supported.
3: Molded "toe-bar": this feature helps your toes grip the footbed. This bar should rest behind the bottom of your toes but ahead of the fore area of the foot. Your toes should not extend to the forward edge of the footbed when standing. If your toes touch the edge of the footbed, consider the next size up.
One more important note:
Traditional Birkenstock sandals/shoes have a fairly soft EVA out sole. During the normal course of wear, these will become thin. To insure the life of the shoe and particularly the footbed, which is made of compressed cork, the out sole should be replaced when the thickness of any edge is less than 1/8" thickness. Check with your local Birkenstock retailer for a quality resoler or you can search the internet. One internet vendor who does resoling is [...] /, course they also sell Birkenstock shoes/sandals.

Pearl Izumi 2009/10 Women's SyncroPace III Running Shoe - White/Rose - 5191-2UH Review

I liked the cushioning in them (I tend to run on my forefoot) and the colors (although the white was REALLY hard to keep clean . . .)

However, within one month and 100 miles I had problems with the white mesh pulling away from the silver material - the seam where it hits the inside of where the ball of my foot just ripped wide open . . . I thought it was just a defect in the shoe and so exchanged them for a new pair of the same . . . and again, after about a month and a little over 100 mile the seam ripped again in the same place.

I would NOT recommend this shoe if you are a runner. If you are buying these more for fashion/walking you might be okay.

I took a 2 hour walk in these boots without breaking them in and the last thing I had to worry about was my feet hurting. These are so comfortable and being lightweight they are great for long treks or even for wearing everyday. They are waterproof and have a great traction sole and the styling won't make you look like a lumberjack.
I know boots are expensive these days - resist the temptation to buy something inferior and get the best fitting pair of boots you can afford. These should last a long enjoyable time.

(More customer reviews)Received these last week from Amazon.I preferred the brown/tan so that they wouldn't show as much dirt.As soon as I opened the box, I knew I had found a great pair of shoes.The soles were flexible and the boots lightweight.Next, I put them on and I found heaven in a boot.These boots feel great.Just the right amount of toe room for me - not too much like other boots I had tried on in the stores.

The real test was the first hike.I don't want to have to break-in any new shoes - period.I won't buy stiff, hard shoes/boots.So with no break-in, I took off on the Ohlone Wilderness Trail out of Livermore, CA and climbed a total of 4000' ascent and 4000' back down - over 13 miles in 8 hours.This was a strenuous hike and the Lowa Zephyr GTX Boots were great.My feet felt fine.My only thought was why didn't I get these sooner.

MuckBoots Adult Arctic Sport Boot Review

(More customer reviews)I am a huge Muck Boot fan (note - there are knock offs out there - I am talking about boots made by the Muck Boot Co and under the Muck Boot brand).We use these exclusively on my ranch in Montana and have purchased just about every make and model they have from the Muck Shoes all the way up to the cold weather arctic versions and everything in between.

The neoprene uppers stay soft and are tough in the rough.They are easy on and off due to the soft uppers. I have a high arch and full length rubber boots are always very hard for me to get off.These boots, since the uppers fold down, are much easier to get off.

They work fine over the pant or under the pant. The only time I have seen them break down is when my employees ride motorcycles out to change wheel line, etc. and they hook them on the foot pegs. This can tear the uppers, so they are not indestructible.The rubber bottoms are very well constructed.The steal toe versions of the boots provide good front foot protection.Size seems pretty standard, so if you are a men's 10, the 10 seems to fit true.A typical pair of boots will last years on the ranch and I have never seen one come apart in any place.The sole will wear out before the boot breaks down.Leaking has never been a problem.
One note: The tack or scrub version of the boots has a sole that is not really made for great gripping on slick surfaces (at least that is my experience).They work fine in the barn, but if you are going to be doing a bunch of walking outdoors, over ice or slick mud, I recommend the "lug" soles.

I have worn the arctic version of the boot in very cold weather (-10 F) and your feet will stay warm with a good sock.I would not use them to stand for long periods of time in very cold weather, as there are better boots made for that kind of performance. The non-arctic versions get worn all year around unless it's very cold.

These boots are not cheap in price, but the last thing I want is wet, cold or sore feet or a boot that breaks down quickly.Muck Boots perform very well and will outlast cheaper brands by a long time.

Tecnica Women's Black Widow Speed Hiker Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these in the Grey/Tidal Blue and I LOVE them! They fit like a glove and have tons of cushion. I'm a size 10 and they fit perfectly. Because they fit snuggly, I wear thinner running socks with them. I wear them for exercise as well as for around town b/c they're so comfortable.

One thing to note is that the tongue of the shoe is sewn in on 3 sides -- this is different than most lace up shoes which at least have a side pleat if they're sewn in like that. What this means is that you can't pull the tongue of the shoe up & out for a wider opening for your foot. Just something to keep in mind if your feet tend to be wider or you have limited mobility/motion in your foot. It may be hard for you to get these on.

Update 7/2010: As these are "trail running" shoes, I took them out for a spin on a 3-4 mile, rough terrain hike. I did notice wear on the tread after that which has me a bit concerned. However, I find that they are still very comfortable and supportive shoes for general exercise.

Generally they have held up pretty well in the two plus years that I have owned mine, but they have developed cracks where the rubber toe cap meets the upper near the sole* that will soon render them useless once the GTX liner is exposed.This happened WAY too quickly for a (nearly) two hundred dollar boot.It's sad, because other than this detail, the boots were pretty good.*I should note that this is NOT something that regularly happens with boots
that I wear due to sizing or foot anomalies.

When the soles wore out and bought two more pair of what I thought were the same boot. But, unfortunately this boot is made differently now and are not even close to the boot it used to be.
