These are the best shoes that I have ever owned. I am a over-pronator and need the right shoes. I have used many but have found these shoes to be the best for me. I wear a B width and New Balance is the only company that offers a complete line of widths in all of their shoes. Kudos to New Balance.

ECCO Men's Track II Low Gore-Tex&#174 Oxford Review

ECCO Men's Track II Low Gore-Tex&#174 Oxford

These are my only business casual shoe. I have low arches and plantar fascia injury to both feet with bone spurs. I can put a couple of miles on these things in a day with no problem, whatsoever. I can do a lot of walking at my job and could not tolerate it in anything else other than a very select group of athletic shoes. I've had two pair of the boots and four pair of the shoes over the last dozen years or so. I put a lot of miles on them and wear them 4-5 days a week, all day. Yes, I've had one pair of the boots and one pair of the shoes, where the soles have disintegrated. However, this was after a ton of wear and very high miles. Other shoes people have said will hold up (i.e. New Balance, Rockports, Vasque, Merrill, Soloman, Red Wing, all have significant wear in the heel (flat edges, rolled heels, busted seams) that make them equally intolerable at a similar amount of miles. Of course, you cannot resole the Ecco's. That's one disadvantage. I obviously have no problem recommending or buying these shoes and have gotten great service and comfort from them. The fact that they are waterproof is a big plus. I hate the price and always look for a bargain. But, for my feet, I've found no shoe that can replace the Track II's.

Mizuno Women's Wave Creation 11 Running Shoe Review

Mizuno Women's Wave Creation 11 Running Shoe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A fortyish female, 110 lbs, 5'2", run 25 miles a week currently. I have very high arches. My feet are narrow at the heel and arch but my toes fan out. Because of this, I need a generous tow box. I do not pronate at all and buy neutral+ shoes.

I had been running in Asics, they were great shoes but did not fit my feet properly. I purchased the Mizuno shoes in order to correct toe problems I was having.

I have put 150 miles on my Mizuno so I thought I had enough info to give a report. I bought these shoes along with a pair of Saucony ProGrid Triumph 7 which I alternate runs in. I also have a report on the Saucony which I have put 175 miles on.

I wear a size 6 in non running shoes. I bought a size 7. I wear very thin socks while running, if I wore thicker socks, I would probably want to try a 7 ½. My toe problem has healed and has not recurred. I no longer tape my toes as I had previously.

These shoes are very light weight. When I first put them on and ran a bit outside the store I felt like I did not have shoes on they were so light. (I had never worn Mizuno before) They offer adequate cushioning but not as much as I have felt in Nike Air I have run in or the Asics I was replacing. I could REALLY tell there was less cushioning, this concerned me a bit but the light weight was outstanding.
The shoes are snug and supportive on my arches which I desire with my very high arches. The area where my heel is has a snug fit and does not slip while running. It seems like they fit and support perfectly along the heel and mid foot and yet open up for a fairly roomy toe box. The toe box is not as roomy as my old Nike Airs, but is roomier than the Asics I had previously.

I have had no hot spots or blisters from these shoes. At one point I started having an issue with my pinky toe going numb a few miles into a run. I have found that I was lacing the shoes too tightly. I wanted to make sure I had the shoe nice and snug so it would not slip and was tying the laces WAY too tight. I now just tie them normally, like I was going out and not running and this has stopped this problem. I also noticed that I had pressure on the outside of my pinky toe, after making sure to not tie so tight, this also has stopped. I attribute these two issues to my fault and not the shoe, however, I do think that supports the fact that the toe box is smaller than Nike Airs; I had always tied those REALLY tight with no problem. Tying them looser has not affected how the shoe supports or given me any problems with rubbing.

I do wish these shoes came in a wide width, just to see if I could have the same size in a wide and tie them down tighter like I like. A wide width might make them perfect for me!

While running these shoes give me a very noticeable springy feel on my feet. Not like shocks on Nike but just a bit of a bounce when landing on my heel and rocking up to push off my toes. This really gives more power in my push off as the momentum powers me forward. I really like the feel of the road they provide too. I feel I get a good feel of the road, yet they power my push off, but with less cushioning, unfortunately. I also think the curve that the toe box makes upward helps with this springy feel. The Saucony shoes toe does not curve up near as much.

During my long runs (7.5 -8.5 miles) I enjoy the light weight of these shoes but do wish I had a bit more cushioning. It has not affected my performance, it is just a preference. When I am doing an easy long run and not worried about time as much I run in the Saucony as they have much more cushioning for these longer runs. If I am trying to run at 10K pace, I go with the Mizuno shoes, the light weight and better feel of the road is worth a little less TLC on my feet to me.
The tread on the shoe is aggressive. I have to stop at times to pop out a rock that is stuck and will not come out without me getting it with my finger. This is great on slick roads. I do not run on trails but I could see this may be a problem picking up stuff if you run a lot of trail runs rather than road running like I do.
I have run a 10K and a 5K in these shoes and have not thought about my shoes in these races. They were comfortable, light, supportive and felt fast. I think a shoe is doing its job when I do not think about it; it is just there, especially during a race.

All in all I like this shoe. I am planning on buying another pair soon when they are retiring it (lower price!!) If you are a runner who likes cushioning, you may want to have these for some runs and another pair to alternate with that offers more cushioning. That has worked well for me. The shoes were well worth the higher price. I prefer to run in these verses the Saucony. In my twenties, it would not have mattered, but with older knees, some more cushioned runs in the Saucony shoes are a must. These are my favorite shoes I have ever run in. An option of a wide width would be a big plus. If you have very wide feet, I recommend you try these on before buying them. They feel pretty wide for a regular width, but you would want to be sure.

ASICS Men's GEL-Nimbus 11 Running Shoe Review

ASICS Men's GEL-Nimbus 11 Running Shoe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For background, I am an average runner that runs three to six miles several days a week - 2/3rds of the time on a treadmill and 1/3 of the time outside. Some seasons I kick up the miles for a marathon, but in general running is part of a cross training program.I have traditionally, oscillated between New Balance and Asics, but flirted with other brands.

Asics makes excellent running shoes in general, but at the high end of their range the Kayano and the Nimbus are standouts.Kayanos are best suited for "neutral" runners who have a perfect step and gate. The Nimbus are a bit more forgiving for those of us who run on the outer edge of one or both of our feet.I fall into this category, in that my shoes show wear on the outer edge of one of my heals.Having run in both the Kayano and the Nimbus, I would give the nod to the Nimbus as it provides a little more "support." (Note - they provide support for running, but next to no lateral support necessary in other sports such as basketball. They are best for running or spending time on your feet all day.)

This is the eleventh (or XI) version of the Nimbus. In theory each iteration would get progressively better, but that has not always been true.Version ten (X) was a bit less cushioned and slightly heavier than nine (IX).That has been cured with this latest model. It is softer and lighter (purportedly by an ounce, which sounds silly unless you run).It breathes a bit better as well.

For the fashionable crowd, the colors are much better in person than shown on the website. The black / graphite version in particular is a nice addition to the traditional white / blue color combo. For those new to Asics, the one downside of all of the Asic's shoes is they have lots of textures and grooves in the foam / rubber areas that pick up dirt easily, but they are "running" shoes so buy something else for street shoes.

One other comparison of note is that Nike's competitor, the Vomero, has improved as well and is close, but not quite as good. They have a slightly wider toe box and feel softer at the ball of the foot out of the box, but the softness translates to a slight dissipation of energy. Ok, for the casual runner, but not for higher mileage - like running in soft sand.

Two niggles that bother me with running shoes at this level that are worth mentioning:(1) the insoles are pathetic and (2) they are made in China. I find it irritating that you spend more than $120 for a pair of shoes and the insole is barely better than cardboard.Second, I always feel a slight pang that anything made in China is made under suspect circumstances. But all running shoes (save for a few New Balance models) suffer from these issues, so I am not deducting a star for this.

In summary, if you like the Asics feel, you will be pleased with this latest Nimbus. It is a worthy successor to the heritage.

These shoes are amazingly comfortable. From the moment you put them on your feet you really don't want to take them off.I can't say that I've ever had a pair of tennis shoes that I preferred to socked feet. Most importantly, they are the perfect running shoe.Extremely light, cushioned and plenty of support.I never write reviews but I am so happy with these that I decided I should write one.By far the best pair of running shoes I've ever had, and I've had a lot.

ASICS Men's GEL-Kayano 15 Running Shoe Review

ASICS Men's GEL-Kayano 15 Running Shoe

I have run in Kayanos for the past 5 years, and each year I nervously try the new model only to find it is as good if not better than the last.I read quite a few reviews for the Kayano 15 and I was more nervous than ususal because there were a few comments about a new feel, the effect of the different lacing pattern on the toe box, etc.I have now been running in 15s for the past few months and I can safely say that for me these shoes are as good if not better than the 14s.I have not noticed any discomfort, and this shoe seems to fit me just a bit better than the 14s.A shoe review is certainly subjective, and no shoe seems to fit everyone the same way, but I'm 6'0" and 195 and I run moderate distances on a weekly basis and the fit and stability of the Kayano 15 has been perfect for me.I just hope I can say the same for the 16s when I need to replace my 15s later this year!

Update (9-4-09) Just a brief update.I can confirm my earlier comments and recommendation for the 15.The shoe has worn very well, and I never experienced any issues with them.I increased my mileage over the past couple months (training for marathon) so I can report that they are just as effective for me at short distances as they are for long.

FiveFingers KSO - Men's by Vibram Review

FiveFingers KSO - Men's by Vibram
Average Reviews:

These shoes are awesome. If the great SON of God, Jesus, himself had worn these when he walked across water, he would have:

1) Been in great comfort
2) Been VERY stylish
3) Been able to actually RUN across water
4) Been the talk of the town (well, you know, besides all the OTHER stuff everyone was talking about, you know, being the SON OF GOD and all....)

These shoes feel good, look good. The only REAL drawback is their price. Kinda spendy. They do take some getting used to, unless you are some kind of Diety yourself, then you probably can adjust rather quickly.

While these shoes will not make you walk on water, as they could for the SON of God... they will be great replacement for whatever water-walking shoes you do use. I've tried several types from different manufacturers, and simply got used to spending $10 to $20 bucks on walmart specials... I wear them when I ride our wave-runners... but these Vibrams take the cake.

They are truly HEAVENLY.

I don't know much, but I know one thing. Jesus is NOT god, but actually his SON.... Praise Jesus! (and praise Vibrams Five Fingers)

New Balance Men's MR993 Running Shoe Review

New Balance Men's MR993 Running Shoe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I still remember the first time I slipped on a pair of 991s, it felt like putting on a pair of socks - fantastic. That was a couple of decades ago and I have not purchased a different brand or style of running shoe since then.

I was a bit surprised when New Balance discontinued the foam cushining 991 and replaced it with the gel cushioned 992.It took a bit of getting used to but I made the transition to 992s.With the 992s also came the option to get several different colors of 992s: the 991s always only came in grey.

I was elated to learn though that the company had again upgraded to 993s which includes a combination of foam and gel.I think they're lighter than 992s too and the feel on first putting on a pair of 993s is very similar to putting on a pair of 991s.They did keep the multiple color options of the 992 line so you can get these in black, grey, white.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this product.

Foremost on my loyalty is the commitment that the company has to local markets. The 993s are Made in the USA and in the back of each of these shoes you can see the prominent USA in bold against an American flag. They are a patriot's shoe and they are quite popular in the military.Unlike other shoe companies that use almost slave child labor to make shoes and then sell them at horrendous profits in America, New Balance provides good jobs in the US.Yes they make less profit and they endorse fewer athletes but we buyers are loyal because:

a) its a fantastic product
b) probably the best running shoe made (don't take my word, try one)
c) they're made in the USA
d) the company is committed to local markets and to producing quality running shoes

No I don't run many marathons anymore (but I have in the past) and I do love these shoes and once every couple of years when my old pair of 993s get relegated to the home repair shoe, I will go out and buy a shiny new pair of 993.It's always just a little bit special when I put on a new pair....

Btw, my closet has a lineup from the two pairs of decade old beaten up old 991s that still come out when I do gardening to the 992s that have been recently demoted with the purchase of my 993s:Yes I still own my 991s, the go through the washer now and again and they still work even after 10 to 15 years (amazing quality)....but they can't be seen in public anymore.

Anyhow, I hope this helps you make a decision on these shoes. It's hard to find a running shoe that has history and character like this line and I'll admit I'm a bit selfish here, the more popular 993s remain - the less likelihood that they'll be discontinued before I die.
