(More customer reviews)After jogging for 6 years and destroying countless running shoes, I self-diagnosed myself with mid-foot strike.I noticed there was a particular wear pattern in the middle of the sole; scouring the internet I found that the 800s had extra rubber in this area of the sole.I have been running in these for the last 4 months, and the sole wear has been much more even and has held up better than previous shoes.My one complaint is that the shoe is almost too light.The first few runs put a lot of pressure on my shins, but after three runs or so, the pain has stopped. However, I'm hesitant to add more mileage to my runs for fear the pain will return.Still it's a good shoe that has lasted longer than any pair I've used for running.

Vasque Women's Velocity VST Trail Running Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)I needed new trail shoes while visiting northern California, and bought these because that was what was available, and I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are. I did several 5 mile hikes through the redwoods and on gravel in them over 3 days and never had a problem. I wear between a 10 and 11 normally, but went with the 11s on these. I have bunions and these are wide enough in the ball of the foot for me. One thing I noticed right off was that there is a good amt. of support under the big toe joint. My feet never got hot and these breathe well. Great trail shoe.

The first two days I used them (the break in period) was necessary to soften the skeleton in the sole of the shoe. Since I pronate some it seemed the inner edge of my heel nearest the arch made constant contact with the plastic footbed where it rises slightly. Once this area seemed to break in and give a little more the hot spot went away. I have been reaping the benefits of this great runner ever since. The sole has very good wear characteristics, the relief cuts in the tread are not cracking or look to be a potential weak point - I would say the sole is; flexible & grippy, yet does not transmit the sharp edges of terrain to your foot. The material is very resistant to trail damage while being protective in the thick areas around your toes and heel cup. Also so far the waterproofing doest not allow water through even though it does not shed off - the material may look wet but you are comfy, dry, and well ventillated in spite of the waterproofing in the material. If this keeps up I may buy another pair!! UPDATE 10/08/09 - shoes no longer water resistant, they have not been washed or treated in a way this should occure so quickly but that my latest news.

(More customer reviews)Well.after much reasearch and consideration I finally decided to go with the Asics Gel Nimbus.I have to say, I was very, very pleased with this purchase.Here's why... I started exercising and running at 259Lbs...yes, I'm a, or should I say "was" a much bigger man.I used Nike's for years and was relatively happy with them, however, with the extra weight I found that days after I would have terrible shin splints, so, like many of us, I found out that it could be a range of things, at the end of the day, trial and error, it was mu shoes and they did not have enough support and cushioning for my excess "junk".

The Nimbus have everything that I needed, as I put them on, I could tell the difference, the support was fantastic, the shoe fit like a glove all around the foot and it gives you a little extra bounce.So, I went running! now 3 weeks later, the shin splints are almost gone and I have improved my time around the Savannah (I live in Trinidad - 3.52km or 2.18 miles around)tremendously.The shoe is comfortable and I did not find you had any "breaking in" to do like some shoes.

Any person, heavy or not or those who have heavy feet would do well to get a pair of these, it's like walking on clouds (no pun intended)They also have a wide pronation range so can suit many types of runners from unders to overs.

I hope this review helps you make a decision.You can't go wrong with these.

New Balance Men's MT876 Trail Running Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)The 876 has all the essential features a serious trail shoe needs: Rockstop, fast draining liner, solid toe protection without being too bulky, and great traction even in moving water over mossy rocks.

This is a good trail running shoe. I ran my first 80 mile ultra marathon 1 year ago. Since then I have used many different shoes or none at all. The 900 series was favorable with the 908 being the best, but later changes made it disappointing because of the addition of Gortex in the 910 which is useless in a serious trail shoe and the liner collapsing in the 909.

I have used this shoe almost a month and it is getting better with time. I only hope that no changes are made to this model, and this shoe is kept in production just the way it is. It fits my needs perfectly.

He has owned these now for several months and would have worn the tread on the bottom completely out by now with any of the other major brands of gym shoes. He really puts alot of wear and tear into his shoes and these have been really great. If ordering these, however, I would suggest they fit you well from the beginning because since they are waterproof and so tightly woven, they will not stretch like so many other gym shoes do. In quality they are much better than any of the major brands so if you want a really well made pair of shoes that will last, these are for you!

Salomon Men's XA Pro 3D Ultra M+ Trail Running Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)I have been wearing these shoes for some years now, first in both the regular width and now the wide M+ version. I have to get the wide versions exported from the US to NZ, as they are not sold here. I like the shoes a lot and wanted to write this review to counter the one star other review. I agree with that reviewer that the shoes do wear quite fast - for me the sole and inside the heel. My heels always wear holes in the lining of the shoes there quite quickly.

That aside I wear these shoes all the time, to the exclusion of everything else. I got them originally for trail running, for which they were great, and liked them so much then wore them all the time. They were checked by my podiatrist, and he thought them good for daily use given the shoes level of support.

I even wore them 10 hours per day (standing) when working as a barista. A great, comfortable shoe, reasonably grippy - at least until the soles start to wear. I get about 6 months use out of each pair, before the soles get too flat and the heel lining holes get too annoying. So if that is too fast for you, avoid, otherwise these are great shoes. Also check out other reviews on the web - you should find this model generally well rated.

And if anyone from Salomon is reading this, PLEASE get the wide model sold in some of the other colours :)

Vasque Women's Aether Tech SS Trail Running Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)The Boa Technology closure system is a nice idea, but until it is improved is just a novelty. I like the ease of use of the lacing dial, but the very thin metallic laces make the shoes look very cheap - as though someone improvised to replace missing laces. What happens if the laces break? Can you order replacement laces, or do you have to replace the entire shoes? You can't use regular laces while you wait for the replacements...

I bought these for warm weather hiking, but the thin uppers feel too stiff while walking on carpeting, so they would hurt while hiking, nevermind running.

These shoes look better in the photo, but the actual shoes look and feel much cheaper.

The other models/styles of Vasque footwear that I've tried so far run small, so I need a half size larger, but they were well-made and very comfortable once I got the right size. While I don't like this particular model of shoe, I love Vasque footwear in general.

A good neutral shoe that doesn`t make my feet and knees feel beat up after long sessions on the treadmill.Being 205 lbs finding a shoe that does that was difficult. Cons. A bit heavier then the running shoes I'm used to, but over all not that bad in weight.
A bit pricey for running shoes, Might have to do a follow up review when I see how long these things last.

(More customer reviews)Extra room in the toe box and a closer fit in the heel fixes the problems I had with the 2140.I recommend a half-size larger if you do long distances to allow for swelling feet (maybe one size larger for some).Good socks are a must, as for any shoe.The laces are flat and stay tied unlike the round laces on the 2140.The sole is sufficiently padded for the road and the support is good for the trail--a good all-around shoe.Many shoes that are "good for both trail and road" are actually so-so for both.I plan to buy another pair to alternate with.

(More customer reviews)I am a huge fan of New Balance products, primarily for the superb fitting I am guaranteed of. I have never had to re-think any purchase on the grounds of fit, and this is no different. However, I think the cushioning is slightly unbalanced, being excellent on the rear sole, while it feels a little spare on the front. Also, the soles squeak with every step while running at a slow pace/walking. Not a major problem, but it could have been better. Traction is very good on slippery surfaces as well. Aesthetics and squeak aside, a good buy.

New Balance Men's MT910 Trail Running Shoe Review

(More customer reviews)Here's a tip for sneaker buyers.If you find a model you like, buy several pairs immediately, because you can be sure the manufacturer will discontinue that model.

My preference is for Gore-tex lined trail runners.That's not because I'm a trail runner.Rather, I'm a nature photographer who spends a lot of time in muddy woods carrying a 40 pound pack of camera gear on my back, and the trail runners take up the impact of my heavy load while the gore-tex keeps my feet dry.I also prefer that they not have mesh tops to help keep my feet a little warm on a cool day when I'm sitting waiting for a fox to show up.

My recent favorite was the New Balance MTI1100 that provided the fit, support and comfort that I wanted, seemed to be designed for an over-pronator like me, and was the only Gore-tex trail runner in their line.Naturally NB discontinued it.I knew that NB often just updated a shoe, adding a digit to the model number but when I looked on their web-site there was no model MTI1101 or anything near it.Instead there was only one trail runner with gore-tex, the MT910GT.It had mesh tops, but I figured I'd sacrifice the warmth, especially since New Balance was the only comfortable shoe I'd been able to find since Montrail was acquired by Columbia Sportswear.

The bottom line is of course that I couldn't wear the shoes.Although NB claims cushioning and stability with an Abzorb sole, the soles felt hard and paper thin.I couldn't feel comfortable in these shoes even when I was walking around without a load.Ultimately they went to the Salvation Army.It may be that somebody can wear these shoes, but not someone who needs cushioning and stability.
