These boots look and feel great. They're very lightweight but feel sturdy. I haven't hit the trails yet but they have stood up to the salt and snow of Chicago winter so far. I have heard nothing but good things regarding Vasque's footwear and I am a believer so far. They're very similar to Merrells that I have owned in the past. Same exact vibram sole.
If you're one of those guys like me that sometimes wears a half-size bigger depending on brand, order the next size up on these. I wear either 11.5 or 12, I bought the 12s and they fit perfectly.

Only a 4 star rating b/c I haven't had them very long, but they probably deserve a 5.

Men's Merrell Legacy Gore-Tex® Review

(More customer reviews)These are good for light hiking in good conditions. They have problems when they get wet. My first pair blew out the side seams on both boots the first time they got really wet (i.e. I fell in to a stream). I returned that pair. With the replacement pair the rubber toe guard seperated from the leather after I hiked in a light rain. I was hoping for a much better constructed boot for this price.

Teva Mens Ossagon Mid Event Hiking Boot Review

(More customer reviews)These boots have been great for hiking. Good grip and very comfortable. I haven't had any issues with moisture/sweat. Haven't tested out if they are affected by water. This purchase has worked out great, now let me go knock on some wood.

UPDATE: Ok so since I bought these about 5 months the bottom rubber soles have started to come unglued. Did not expect that. Are still extremely comfortable and otherwise have stood up well on my day-hikes. I think some superglue will resolve the sole issue and comfort-wise I find these shoes worth the superglue, but I'd be pretty upset had I paid current prices of around $100. If I could change the rating I would give 3.5 stars now. A great shoe IF it stays intact.

Merrell Chameleon Evo Mid Boot - Men's Review

(More customer reviews)As soon as I received the shoes I put them on and went for a short 3-4 mile "break-in" hike.No blisters or hotspots and they had great traction and comfort.Since then I have put several miles on them and have trudged through alot of water with no leaks.Very good fit and finish and I believe I got my money's worth.The only change I will make is a better insole (Spendco Rx).

Danner Women's Danner 453 GTX Women'S Outdoor Boot Review

(More customer reviews)Getting ready to spend a summer hiking about the vast unruly lands in the Southwest my husband and I bought these boots in his and hers styles.Overall we very much love them!Heeding some advice, we bought these boots a little bigger than we needed so we could accommodate the swelling that feet do throughout a day of walking/hiking.And since I have very sensitive toe nails that practically jump off at a rumor of trauma, I've been keeping a close eye on how they react to these boots.So far they're all intact!!They have proven waterproof so far, however one of the little metal insignia that are punched into the boots have fallen out leaving a hold about 3 mm in diameter - I'll try to find something to patch it later - but am disappointed that I'd have to patch $150 boots so soon.The only other thing that I don't like is that they bruise the backs of my ankles where the top of the boot meets them.Its not so bad that i can't wear them all day, but at night i can certainly tell that I've been wearing my Danners again.

(More customer reviews)I bought a pair of these last year to do a lot of hiking up at Mt Ranier.They were fine for about a quarter mile with a 35 pound backpack, but then their defect started taking its toll.The arch of the left shoe is so far back in the sole that it hits on the front portion of the ball of my foot.I didn't notice this problem when I was wearing them for day hiking, but as soon as I put on the pack, I wished I had bought something else.Rather disappointing considering they were highly recommended and supposedly made to specifically for a woman's anatomy.

Men's Merrell Outland Mid Waterproof Review

(More customer reviews)I have plantar fasciitis and love to hike so a comfortable shoe is priority number 1. I like these better than my Nike Shox. I also like being able to have dry feet so the waterproof feature was a must. Don't let the shoe store guy (who only hikes in the mall) convince you that the Gortex shoes are waterproof. All this means is that they won't come apart if they get wet. They're durable, yes, but with the breathable sides, step into a few inches of water and you'll have soggy socks. The shoe has to have the "Waterproof" plate on the side. After four or five sporting goods stores, this was the only boot that I could find that met this criteria. A lot of the other shoes were too pretty or looked like they could kick in the face of a bear if you were attacked. These were built for the trail and they're also very light.

Without the breathable sides, I was concerned about sweaty feet, but after 5.5 hours on the trail, I was pleasantly surprised. My feet didn't sweat. The socks I wore were Red Head and I believe these made a big difference. At the hiking stores you'll see a lot of thick, wool socks. The Red Heads I'm referencing are only thick on the sides and bottom. The remainder of the sock is thin and cool.

The price does seem a bit steep, but if you're a serious hiker and want these features, you'll have to spend the extra amount. Through my searching, there's just seems to be no alternative. I "saved" some cash one year and destroyed the boots on my first trip. So, I really just wasted money.

(More customer reviews)While these boots are attractive, they are far from durable.While there are many glowing reviews to be found for these boots, most of the reviewers haven't put any serious miles in them.I took these out for a 5 day backpacking excursion in the Grand Canyon and by the second day, the outsole had already begun separating from my right foot.By the time I climbed out on the fifth day, I easily could have removed the outsole from the right boot with my hand, and the outsole on the left boot was also coming apart.It wasn't entirely surprising since the soles are only secured with glue.The corners cut to make these boots lightweight were also evident in the provided cushioning.Plan on sore feet if you spend any time walking over scree.If you spend most of your time walking on groomed trails, this may not be an issue.

They might not be the best boot for extended hikes but for a good dayhike or just a everyday wearing boot these wear great. They are a little shorter cut boot but still give plenty ankle support, and what i love about them they are very light weight but very durable feeling. I love the vibram soles they are not too agressive and clean out faily easily but still with ample traction in conditions that demand it. If your looking for a good all around/approch/day hike boot i highly suggest. If your looking for an extreme hiker might want to keep looking. Hope this helps.

(More customer reviews)The Cimarron Water Shoe is a very comfortable shoe, however shortly after receiving them and having exposed them to a little mud they were washed in a conventional washing machine where the stitching around the top area under the ankle became unraveled. Unfortunately, like so many products sold in our country today, this shoe is manufactured in Communist China. The poor quality of stitching was due to the manufacturing process and not the design itself. I returned the shoes for another selection.

SCARPA Men's Kailash GTX Hiking Boot Review

(More customer reviews)The Scarpa Kailash is an amazing all purpose mid weight boot, I started checking into them after they received excellent reviews in last year's Backpacker Gear Guide and eventually bought a pair. There was a small bit of hesitancy surrounding this purchase since I rarely buy new boots. I don't have the budget to be dropping a few hundred bucks every season to keep up with the latest trends so durable gear is a must. Thankfully I was not let down and they lived up to the hype, amazingly comfortable right out of the box and incredibly durable they were perfect for general use and mid weight hikes even over longer distances. The Gore-Tex liner does help when it comes to water proofing but if you're going into deep snow or extremely wet conditions (or any kind of mountaineering) you may want to consider stepping up to the Barun which is Scarpa's light weight mountaineering boot and the Kailash cousin. (I should point out the Kailash does dry quickly thanks to its design and holds out 99% of the water; I'm just a little bit obsessive when it comes to that.) So if you're looking for a boot that will take you through three seasons comfortably with a lot of durability and a low price tag then this is the boot for you. I have a pair and have no intention of trading them in anytime soon. I also learned recently that they are going to be this year's boot of the year for Backpacker Magazine yet again, for whatever that matters to you.

Hi-Tec Women's Altitude Ultra Light Hiking Boot Review

(More customer reviews)For basic hiking boots these are definitely worth a try. I'm still breaking these in but for stability they're much better than my other higher priced, big name brand boots. There's not a ton of padding in these but with my mid weight wool socks they're just fine. They're very good for balance on rocks and roots along the trails as well as grippy.So far they've kept my feet dry as well although I haven't been able to give them a true solid test through a stream. I'm very happy with them and have been from when I took them out of the box. I did change the insole however. I needed a little more arch support than those which came with the boots offered.

I've now been using these boots for a while now and I love them all for one problem, I get awful blisters on both heals despite wearing band aids and padded moleskin. They may work well for someone with tougher heals that I.

Merrell Men's Cruise Control Beluga/Ginger Review

(More customer reviews)I was introduced to Merrell shoes several years ago by my orthopedic foot/ankle surgeon when I was having problems with my Achille's tendons. My wife was also having trouble with plantar facsiitis, and the same doctor introduced her to Merrell shoes. From the first time I slipped on the Merrell Cruise Control I could feel it was extremely comfortable. My wife and I have hiked extensively in the Cruise Control, and both of us have found relief for our foot respective foot problems. Another plus if you hike is that the Cruise Control has excellent traction even on gravely trails when most shoes lose traction causing falls. But be careful on wet cement/tile surfaces! The same feature that gives it great traction on the trail will cause it to be slippery in those circumstances. Since we wear these shoes for everyday shoes, we are always wary on hard, wet surfaces.
