I never owned snowshoes before and decided to buy the Tubbs snowshoes after much comparison and feature shopping. What sold me were the two notched blades
that run along the bottom of each shoe as well as the bindings and over all configuration of the shoes.
I needed snowshoes because I became a member of the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland Ohio. That place is in the snow belt and 18 inches of snow is common in the winter. The winter beauty of the Arboretum can best be viewed by getting around on snowshoes and the Tubbs did the job excellently.I used the shoes on five different occasions and I didn't have a single problem. The hikes lasted about 3 hours each.
The bindings are great. After the first adjustment for your boots you just step in, push a tab into a slot on top of your boot and your ready to go.To get out of the shoes you push a button on top of the slot tab assembly and the bindings open and you simply step out of the shoes.I love it.
In soft snow the shoes would go into the snow about as deep as the top of the curve at the front of the shoe.No problem. On hill sides, frozen, irregular, and trampled snow, there was not a hint of dangerous footing.
I can find room for one improvement. The keepers for the excess length of the binding straps are inadequate. The straps easily come out of the keepers but the unsecured straps have no effect on the performance of the shoes. An improved keeper is in order.
These shoes cost more than other snowshoes but I would say they are state of the art and can't be beat.
