(More customer reviews)I've trekked over quite a bit of rough terrain.I wanted waterproof, sand-proof hiking boots, and my Asolo's are perfect.I've worn them hiking through extremely muddy conditions, and not a drop of water or mud got inside them.I've worn them excavating in the Middle East a number of times - sand never permeates them, and my feet don't get too hot in them.I even wore them for two weeks straight in London (not exactly rough terrain, but I knew I was going to be walking all day, every day) and my feet never got sore from walking, not once.They're also warm; I use them as winter boots and they're just fine.I've been wearing the same pair for five years and they show no signs of wearing out yet.

Two points to consider: 1) They will scuff.The leather upper is great for water resistance and warmth, but don't expect it to stay unblemished.After stomping through brambles for several weeks, they were irreversibly scuffed; however, the scuffing will not affect their performance at all.In fact, I'm quite proud of how scuffed mine are - you can walk through anything in these boots.2) I recommend inserting some basic cushioning insoles on top of the regular insoles.I use Dr. Scholl's Air-Pillo insoles (cheap at $4 a pair) and it results in an extremely comfortable walking experience.
