(More customer reviews)I had never owned Chacos before buying this pair of mid-height Canyonland hiking boots, lured by the inexpensive price of less than $50. When I first put them on, I was surprised by the big lump on the inside that is the arch support, and feared it would become uncomfortable. The boots felt wide and short for my feet, even though I ordered my true size, and I nearly returned them. However, I found that within a few days the boots had adapted to my feet. Their true value became clear only when I wore them on the trail and found them to be much more comfortable than a $120 pair of Merrells I had bought at REI.
I love the way these boots grip the trail and no longer fear steep downhills on gravelly paths. In fact, I like them so much that I also bought a pair of shoes to use where there is less risk of ankle twisting. While the mid height does not provide the same support as a pair of higher boots, they are more comfortable for hiking and do provide some ankle support, a compromise that I think works.
The one caution I would provide is that there isn't much cushioning and I would not use these as regular shoes on cement. However, I find them to be extremely comfortable and fantastic for their stated purpose of trail hiking.
I have very narrow feet, and find them to be true to size, even when worn with thicker hiking socks. For those with average width feet, I would recommend going up if you intend to wear them with thick socks.
