Timberland Classic 3 Eye Lug Handsewn Review

I've owned several pairs of these in the last 30 years. I used to love them. But I won't buy them again.

The last pair had rubber soles poorly glued to the leather insole. Several exposures to wet weather resulted in the soles coming loose. Regluing them never seem to work. Heavy shoes like these, with soles like these, commonly are bought for use in bad weather. It's not like I went hiking in patent leather tuxedo pumps and then complained because they didn't hold up well.

All shoes made in China are not necessarily inferior. But Timberlands aren't what they used to be.

Sebago Men's Colden Boat Shoe Review

Sebago Men's Colden Boat Shoe

I highly recommend the Sebago Colden boat shoe for anyone looking for a serious, old-school leather boat shoe. This is the real deal: thick, sturdy leather, stiff Vibram lug sole, genuine leather lining, etc.You won't find any new technology here:these shoes are rugged & heavy, and made to last 20 years.I got them in the red/brown color and I really like the color. They look great with jeans or chinos. They are a bit stiff out of the box, but I am sure like any good leather shoe they will soften and become more comfortable with time.I stumbled across this shoe while looking at Sperrys, Timberlands, and other brands, and I was drawn to this one because of the rugged look and the Vibram sole.I actually bought a pair of these and a pair of Sperry nautical lug boat shoes, and despite the fact that they are both boat shoes, they couldn't be more different. The Sperrys are very soft, lightweight, and incorporate lots of modern touches, whereas these are traditional all the way.I'm not sure which I like better overall but I like the rugged look of the Sebagos better.Something to be aware of:these seem to run a bit long.I wear a size 8-1/2 or 9 shoe, and even in an 8-1/2 this shoe extends a good half-inch beyond my big toe, so I probably could wear an 8 in this shoe.
